Villain: The Master
Show: Doctor Who
Episode: Season 3, Episode 13- Last of the Time Lords
Song: I Can't Decide- Scissor Sisters
I absolutely LOVE this scene, so much that at the end of it I went and tracked down and got the song purely so when I listened to it I could relive this glorious combination of actor, character, music and scene. Why is this so great? Well I suppose it helps to have the watched not only this episode but the episode beforehand so you get the buildup from this maniacal and unpredictable character. Unpredictable being the keyword here, we don't know if he's going to kill the Doctor or keep toying with him, the main reason that this song is so amazing. Also did I mention it's JOHN FRICKING SIMM, one of the most underrated actors in my opinion, he was incredible in Life On Mars (specifically mentioning this because if you haven't seen it you are wasting precious moments where you could be!) but he is an absolute scene stealer in Doctor Who and that's stealing scenes from David Tennant which is quite a mighty feat! I love that the man is picky about his tea as well, being quite the lover of tea myself I loved the inclusion of that part (plus I disliked the character who made it so really it was a two in one for me). So to finish up my rambling on this, my favourite lyric is "Oh I could bury you alive but you might crawl out with a knife and kill me when I'm sleeping", morbid but amazing and works especially well with this scene and with these characters.
Villain: Jim Moriarty
Show: Sherlock (BBC)
Episode: Season 2, Episode 1- A Scandal in Belgravia
Song: Stayin Alive- Bee Gees
There is a specific reason that the song is after the clip, purely because this scene absolutely thrived on it being one of the most unexpected ways for this lead on from a cliffhanger to be resolved. You may not understand why this scene is so amazing unless you have watched the season one finale of Sherlock, where we were waiting to see what would resolve this situation that looked like it could only lead to death/ deaths of amazing characters. So what resolves an intricate and seemingly death binding situation? The Bee Gees of course! Obviously there is the irony of the title, I mean "Stayin Alive", how much more in your face could you get? But there is also the amazing way in which Moriarty answers the phone, complete with phone etiquette for the other people in the room (despite trying to kill them). Also I'm using this as a time to say what an amazing job Andrew Scott (Moriarty) does at playing this amazingly intricate and fascinating villain, I am just in awe of him because I would not have expected him to do such an amazing job and he did. Favourite lyric? Without a doubt "You can tell by the way I use my walk, I'm a womans man, no time to talk"
Villain: Death
Show: Supernatural
Episode: Season 5, Episode 21-Two Minutes To Midnight
Song: O Death- Jen Titus
Yes I realize that Death is not necessarily a villain, that line is especially blurred in the show Supernatural but I really, really, really wanted to include this scene because it gives me goosebumps EVERY TIME! This scene is Death (the horseman) riding into town, it's his first introduction into the show and it is just mind-blowing how great the scene and song are together in this. The voice of Jen Titus is absolutely amazing and the ominous sort of chant just give this an amazing feel and feeds a level of excitement about what this character will bring. Once again thank-you Supernatural for being all things amazing. Favourite lyric: "O what is this I see, With ice cold hands taking hold of me"
Thanks for reading!
